Sachin Pilgaonkar is a fine Indian actor and former child artiste who is known for delivering great performances in Indian films and television shows. He was born on 17 August 1957 at Bombay, Maharashtra. He is known by his screen name ‘Sachin’. Sachin Pilgaonkar is also an efficient director, producer and a fine singer.
Sachin Pilgaonkar’s family belongs from Goa’s Pilagaon area, and hence their surname is derived from the area (Pilagaon). Sachin’s father has a flourishing printing business in Mumbai. Sachin married actress Supriya Pilgaonkar who was his co-star in Marathi film ‘Navri Mile Navryala’ (1984). They were one of the most popular pair in Marathi film industry. Together, they have a daughter called Shriya Pilgaonkar.
Sachin started his career as a child artiste in Marathi films. His first film was ‘Ha Majha Marg Ekla’ (1962) for which he also won the Nation Award for Best Child Artiste Category. After that, as a child artiste he played many roles in over 65 films like Dak Ghar (1965), Majhli Didi & Jewel Thief (1967), Brahmachari (1968), Krishna Leela (1971), Sholay (1975), etc. Thereafter, he drifted towards playing lead roles as an adult in successful romantic films like Geet Gaata Chal (1975), Balika Badhu (1976), Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se (1978), Bhojpuri/Awadhi/Hindi film ‘Nadiya Ke Paar ‘(1982). He also played supporting roles in films like Satte Pe Satta (1982), Avtaar (1983), Hichki (2018), etc.
He also acted in Marathi films like Paraadh (1977), Ashta Vinayak (1979), Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi (1988), etc. He also acted in Ekulti Ek (2013) alongside his daughter Shriya Pilgaonkar and Katyar Kaljat Ghusali (2015), etc.
During the 1990’s, Sachin Pilgaonkar switched towards Indian Television Industry. He directed and acted in hit Hindi TV show ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ which starred his wife Supriya Pilgaonkar and late actress Reema Lagoo. It was telecasted in DD National and Star Plus. He also directed other TV shows like Rin 123 in DD Metro, Hudd Kar Di, etc. He was also into anchoring shows like Chalti Ka Naam Antakshari and Marathi dance reality show ‘Eka Peksha Ek. In 2006, he also participated in star couple dance reality show ‘Nach Baliye with his wife, Supriya Pilgaonkar and even won the show. Later, he also appeared as a judge in Colors TV ‘s kids comedy talent show ‘Chhote Miyan’ (2009).
Sachin Pilgaonkar is a multi- talented personality who has even directed his own movies in Marathi like the critically acclaimed film ‘Mai Baap’ (1982), commercially successful film ‘Navri Mile Navryyala’ (1984), Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi (1988), etc. After that he directed comedy Marathi films like Amchyasarkhe Aamhich, Kinku, etc.
Sachin Pilgaonkar is also an excellent writer and author. He is famous for writing his own biography titled ‘Hach Maza Marg’ (2017) for completing glorious 50 years in Indian Cinema. He also wrote the lyrics of the Ghazal “Badal Jo Ghir Ke Aaye under the pseudonym of Shafaq for Govind Nihalani’s Marathi directoral debut ‘Ti Ani Titar’ (2017).
Sachin Pilgaonkar contribution towards Indian Cinema and Indian Television was very productive especially for the awards and accolades he has won. This includes National Films Award for Best Child Artist for Marathi film ‘Ha Maza Marg Ekla’ (1962) and ‘Ajab Tuje Sarkar (1971). Sachin Pilgaonkar also won a Filmfare Award in 1978 and Filmfare Marathi Award for best actor in Katvar Kaljat Ghusli in 2016.
